"As a scrum master, I have a very diverse role"

Colette is a scrum master at Enexis

Started as a trainee in 2020 and now a successful scrum master. That's how Colette's career at Enexis went. Had she completely mapped out that path? Absolutely not. "I found my way to this role thanks to the traineeship. I learned a lot about leadership and noticed that the agile and scrum mindset really suits me." An experienced colleague taught her the tricks of the trade, and since October 2023, she has officially been a Scrum master. Does she feel she's in the right place now? "Definitely," she says enthusiastically.

Servant leader

What attracted Colette to the scrum methodology? The idea of self-organizing teams. "As a scrum master, I facilitate what the team needs. The scrum master is also known as a servant leader. That's how it feels to me, and it really excites me. Ensuring that team members can do their work smoothly, without obstacles: that’s my goal. What gives me satisfaction? When the team comes to me with a request for help. That shows they know how to find me and that I am of added value."

Wearing different hats

"I have a very flexible role, which I really enjoy," Colette continues. "I actually wear different hats. I am a servant leader, but also a coach and change agent. I stimulate and facilitate the team to continuously improve. I like to work from a place of connection. No one in my team is the same, and everyone needs a different approach. That is a challenge and, at the same time, the most fun part of my role. I really try to discover what kind of people I have in my team and from there, implement change. Because it's such a flexible role, I can partly shape it according to my own insights."

Asset registration

Colette is proud of the content of the work for which her team and the chain are responsible, namely asset registration. "We develop and manage the system in which all Enexis assets are registered. That system is called GEN. Like Google Maps, we have a map on which all cables, pipes, transformer houses and stations are recorded. An essential system for our organization. Because the data in the system is, among other things, the basis of our network calculations, in which we make plans for network expansions and reinforcements."

"The energy transition is really a task we all want to accomplish together at Enexis. That creates a great atmosphere in the company: all in together!"

Colette - scrum master

Agile training

As a scrum master, Colette also adds value to the organization in another way. "The agile methodology was only implemented in 2022. Because it’s still relatively new, as a scrum master, you can mean a lot by taking the organization along with this new way of working. I recently did that for the first time with training for new employees. These are the things I love to do!"

Opportunity to grow

Of course, it was a bit of an adjustment for Colette, this new role. But now that she feels completely at home, she even has room to support other initiatives. "There are plenty of topics you can tackle as a scrum master. During a recent production disruption, we noticed that the process in the chain could be improved. We looked with all the stakeholders at what we could improve and what actions we needed to take. I really appreciate the freedom to tackle such improvements together. It gives me the opportunity to grow."
