“The energy I get when I see the team working well; that’s why I do this.”

Lauri is a scrum master at Enexis

Lauri enjoys working for Enexis since 2018. She began her Enexis career as a test engineer on a temporary basis. When she was asked to join permanently after 2 years, she didn’t have to think twice. “I find this such a pleasant and vibrant organization,” she says enthusiastically. “That’s also why I like going to the office and don’t work from home much: I am energized by the dynamics here.”

A great opportunity

For almost 4 years, Lauri served as a test engineer in her scrum team. Until the current scrum master left and asked: “Lauri, isn’t this role something for you?” That got her thinking. “It definitely seemed fun to step back a bit from the product and focus more on what my colleagues in the team need to continuously develop. So, this was a great opportunity for me and I gladly took it.”

Optimally functioning teams

Lauri supports two scrum teams that both focus on the same product: Flux. “These are Mendix applications that facilitate the workflow system for various colleagues. From engineers, implementers and designers to external contractors: they all use Flux. For example, if Enexis is set to realize energy connections in a new residential area, the project is created with our system. Colleagues then use it to prepare quotes, set up project budgets and material lists, or to financially wrap up the project. It is an organization-wide essential product that makes the status of projects transparent.”

Contributing to the energy transition

With the responsibility for such an important project system, Lauri contributes to the mission of making the energy transition a reality. “As scrum master, I may not work directly on the system, but I help the teams do their work as optimally as possible. I find it rewarding that I can contribute to such a socially urgent task in this way.”

"I like to orient myself broadly. Here I get the chance to take on various initiatives outside my teams as well."

Seeing the team grow

“As scrum master, I ensure that team members improve their work processes,” Lauri continues. “I find it important that they themselves see the possibilities for improvement. I don’t come up with solutions for them, but facilitate sessions so they can grow as a team. I constantly seek the balance between giving the team as much freedom as possible while providing enough support. The energy I get when I see the team working well; that’s why I do this. And when, after a retrospective for instance, I hear that team members found the session fun and informative, it makes me proud.”

Freedom to take on other initiatives

Lauri’s top priority is ensuring her teams function smoothly. When that’s the case, she then has the freedom to take on other initiatives as well. For example, Lauri is part of the core team of the so-called change guild, a working group where all Enexis scrum masters and change managers come together to further develop change management. “I enjoy looking at improvement opportunities with a broader perspective. I also regularly brainstorm with other scrum masters who work in completely different departments. It’s great that we get the opportunities to do that.”
